Case study
ToqCards
Business cards with an NFC chip, customised in both design and destination: tapping a phone could open a WhatsApp chat, save a contact, or lead to a website or a LinkedIn profile. When I launched them I had not seen anything like it in the Peruvian market.

The client
ToqCards started in 2023 as an own project in Lima. They were business cards with an NFC chip inside: instead of handing over a piece of paper that ends up in a drawer, the other person tapped their phone on the card and whatever the owner had chosen opened instantly.
The challenge
The challenge was not technical, it was judgement. Every client wanted their card to do something different: a lawyer wanted it to open a WhatsApp chat to capture enquiries, a restaurant wanted its menu, a professional wanted their LinkedIn profile. You had to understand each business before programming anything, and design the card so it looked like a serious object rather than a gadget.
The solution
Every card was designed and programmed individually. The destination could be a WhatsApp chat already open, a vCard that saved the contact in one tap, a website, a LinkedIn profile or any combination of social accounts. The design followed each client’s identity, and clients without one got it built as part of the job.
What we built
- Over 40 cards sold with zero advertising spend, purely by referral from one client to the next
- Configurable destination: WhatsApp, contact vCard, website, LinkedIn or social profiles
- Design customised per client, starting from their identity or creating one
- Clients in legal services, food and catering, tourism and independent professionals
- The largest client was the Peruvian national tourism association
ToqCards is no longer on sale. The NFC card market filled up with competitors worldwide and keeping it running stopped making sense. What remains is the experience of designing, producing and selling an own product.
